Weight Is the Other Half of Your Valuation
Alongside purity, weight is what determines your payout. In the UK, scrap gold is almost always weighed in grams, but you may also hear pennyweights (dwt) or troy ounces, especially with coins and bullion.
The Units Explained
- Grams (g): The standard unit for jewellery in the UK, shown on our calibrated scales.
- Pennyweights (dwt): An older unit, 1 dwt = 1.555 grams.
- Troy ounce (oz t): Used for bullion, 1 troy ounce = 31.103 grams.
Why Calibrated Scales Matter
A fraction of a gram can mean a meaningful difference in your payout. We use only trade-calibrated scales and weigh every item in front of you, so you see the exact weight yourself. We never round down or estimate.
